Puzzle Answer Today

How to play Crossclimb

Crossclimb is LinkedIn's daily trivia ladder. You answer five trivia clues, arrange the answers so each word differs from the next by a single letter, then unlock the top and bottom rungs.

The rules

  1. Five trivia clues give five words, all the same length (four or five letters).
  2. Drag the words into an order where each one changes exactly one letter from the word above it.
  3. Once the middle of the ladder is right, the top and bottom rungs unlock. They share a single clue.
  4. The game is timed, so the faster you finish, the better your score.

A new puzzle comes out every day at 12:00 AM Pacific Time.

A small example

This ladder is ours, not LinkedIn's. The highlighted letter is the one that changed from the rung above:

  1. HEAD
  2. HEAT
  3. HEAL
  4. TEAL
  5. TELL
  6. TALL
  7. TAIL

Each step changes one letter: HEAD to HEAT changes D to T, HEAT to HEAL changes T to L, and so on down to TAIL. The top and bottom words share a clue, here "the two sides of a coin": heads and tails.

Strategy

1. Answer the easy clues first

You don't have to go in order. Every word has the same length, which rules out many guesses on the harder clues once you know the letter count.

2. Look for one-letter neighbours

With three or four words found, compare them letter by letter. Two words that differ in one position sit next to each other on the ladder, which tells you where the missing words fit.

3. Use the ladder to guess a stuck clue

If a clue has you stuck, the words above and below it limit the answer to one changed letter. Try each letter in that spot.

4. Think in pairs for the ends

The top and bottom words usually belong together: opposites, two halves of a phrase, or a matching pair.
